Role Summary
We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented Junior Broker to join our Sale & Purchase (S&P) team in Japan. You will work alongside our experienced Brokers to help strengthen relationships with existing clients for secondhand sales as well as develop new business, and provide support with the negotiating, finalising and placing of contracts for vessels across various asset classes with shipowners.


Ideally you will have some broking experience and be keen to develop your experience. You will be driven and self-motivated and a strong relationship builder.


What you will be doing
• Support the day to day activities of the Senior Brokers on the Sale and Purchase desk.
• Assist in actively driving revenue through secondhand sales for vessels and develop new business and identify and introduce new clients.

• Establish and maintain effective relationships internally and externally.

• Attend meetings and events with clients where required.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation and assist with producing internal and external reporting.

• Maintain databases and prepare market information and reports for clients.
• Help to manage internal data flow of key market information.
• Maintain a database of sales activity.

• Continue to develop knowledge and expertise on the S&P arena and market space.
• Help to conduct post fixture support in a prompt and efficient manner.


What we are looking for

Key Attributes
• Previous experience or exposure within broking desirable but is not mandatory
• Experience or knowledge of secondhand sales desirable but not mandatory
• Knowledge of shipbuilding practice and negotiation helpful, but not mandatory
• Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Personable and engaging, able to build strong relationships
• Good commercial judgement with good negotiation skills
• Driven, self-motivated and client focused
• Strong numeracy skills and excellent presentation skills
• Confident and able to work well under pressure, with ability to adapt
• Strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy
• Strong MS office skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word
• Graduate with degree discipline in economics, maths or maritime would be preferred
• Japanese speaker would be an advantage
