Division Overview
Dry Cargo chartering is a varied and complex market involving more than three billion tonnes of cargo each year. Our experienced team based in 15 countries acts as a vital link between charterers and shipowners who need to transport the goods required by a growing global population. We are experienced in spot chartering for individual voyages, Contracts of Affreightment (COAs) on behalf of major commodity and power companies and the timecharter of vessels for short or long-term charter cover, covering all sizes of vessels from Capesize to Handysize.


Role Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for Junior Dry Bulk Analyst to join our Dry Bulk Market Analysis team in London. The person in this role will have the opportunity to work in a team analysing shipping and commodities markets, as well as gain exposure to the commercial side of the world’s shipping industry. This position would be ideal for a graduate who is highly numerate and analytical, comfortable with using Microsoft Excel and producing reports and presentations. Ideally you will have some experience of market analysis, preferably within the shipping industry (although not mandatory).


What you will be doing
• Maintaining key databases and presentation slide packs that underpin the work of the Market Analysis team.
• Supporting senior team members in preparing presentations that are delivered to key clients.
• Analysing shipping market trends and economic data to inform market outlook.
• Providing general assistance to the Market Analysis team and brokers with a variety of ad-hoc analytical requests.
• With time, the potential to interact with a wide range of internal and external clients.
• With time, the potential of working on the maintenance and development of various models and new products relating to international trade and the demand for shipping.
• Continually look at ways to improve our internal systems, data collection and the delivery of our analysis.
• Additional / ad hoc duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

What we are looking for
• Some market analysis experience, preferably within the shipping industry will be advantageous (although not mandatory)
• Strong IT skills, proficient in using MS office products (including MS excel, powerpoint and word)
• Highly numerate with strong analytical and good problem-solving skills
• Strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to analyse large amounts of data quickly and accurately
• Demonstrable analytical and report development abilities
• Logical thinker with a genuine interest and resourcefulness to understand what information is important then disseminate this information to the relevant audience(s)
• Ability to take complex data and themes and translate this into easily understood analysis for the relevant audience(s)
• Previous experience in providing data driven business insights an advantage
• Ideally, you will be comfortable with and have experience in delivering presentations
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Organised, able to multi-task and work to tight deadlines
• Self-motivated and proactive approach to work, and able to work autonomously
• Adaptable to changing priorities
• Ideally a graduate with a degree discipline in economics, maths or equivalent
