Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Operator to join our Dry Cargo Operations division in Tokyo. The successful candidate will be required to manage a variety of post –fixture related duties for the vessels (mainly dry bulk).
What you’ll be doing
- Carry out various post-fixture operations TC, VC and COA duties.
- Undertake day-to-day operational duties.
- Liaise with brokers / counterparties / owners / charterers with regards to operational matters on ships and / or cargo.
- Monitor voyages and input data into internal operations system.
- Check recaps / charter parties.
- Review freight / hire invoices and ensure accuracy prior to submitting to Charterers. Also ensure that they are issued on time, and that payment is made in a timely manner.
- Liaise with accounts team with regards to issuance of commissions invoice.
- Ensure any declarations are noted and diarised.
- Communicate declarations with clients prior to expiration.
- Track vessel itineraries, ensuring vessels meet contractual obligations.
- Chase for and check load / discharge / proceeding orders.
- Follow up on and log load and discharge port documentation.
- Ensuring LOI’s are issued timely.
- Analyse and provide solutions to any issues faced by clients/ships/cargoes.
- Provide assistance to our chartering team.
- Additional / ad hoc duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

Other requirements
- Previous operations experience, preferably within the Dry bulk markets
- Knowledge of shipping and trading practices
- Ability to understand recaps and charter parties, clauses for voyage and time-charter vessels
- Strong communicator, both verbal and written, and able to build strong relationships
- Highly organised and responsive, with excellent time management skills
- Strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail
- Self-motivated, diligent and able to work well under pressure
- Flexible and willing to work out of office hours and weekends as required
- Fluency in Japanese and English
- Good knowledge in MS office (word, excel, powerpoint)
