Role Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a graduate/post-graduate to join our Market Analysis team in London as a junior dry bulk analyst. This is an entry-level role to work in a team analysing shipping and commodity markets, with tasks to include transforming data, sending out reports, and responding to broker and client requests. Career progression prospects within this role include client-facing work and exposure to the commercial side of the shipping industry.

 

What you’ll be doing

Tasks will include:

  • Primary focus will include working with the international team of analysts to support data development, acquiring data from primary and secondary data sources and maintaining existing databases and updating charts.
  • Utilising data analytics tools to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Creating and writing reports for brokers/clients on commodity and freight trends in a quick, clear, and concise manner.
  • Summarising daily/weekly fundamental market news to brokers/clients.
  • Supporting senior team members in preparing presentations that are delivered to key clients.
  • Providing general assistance to the Market Analysis team and brokers with a variety of ad-hoc analytical requests.
  • Possibility to interact with a wide range of internal and external clients.
  • Interact with brokers to gain additional market insights and develop relationships.
  • Additional / ad hoc duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

  • Must have excellent communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas and data results of analysis clearly and simply. A good writer of succinct and direct style with particular attention to detail.
  • Must be a team player and able to collaborate and work well as part of a results-oriented, office-based work-place.
  • Comfortable communicating with senior colleagues and with confidence in group discussions and in public speaking.
  • Interest in broader macro-economic/geopolitical environment and how this impacts dry bulk shipping and client business.
  • Must have strong excel skills and comfortable in handling large volumes of data.
  • Familiarity / willingness to learn python / SQL and in developing data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, determination, high quality output.
