Role Summary

You will be responsible for the training and development of employees to ensure that our people continue to develop, progress their careers and deliver client value as well as to increase the employee experience. You will work with our senior leadership teams to produce and deliver practical training plans and activities, and identify the skills required to help futureproof and grow our business.


What you’ll be doing

• Proactively identify training needs and learning opportunities and develop solutions to support the achievement of business and people development goals.

• Be the go-to-person and subject matter expert in relation to learning and development, planning and executing the future L&D strategy to support the current and future learning needs of the organisation.

• Work with internal stakeholders and HR colleagues to review the current learning and development offering, develop new programmes and embed these into the business.

• Ensure that new joiners quickly integrate into our business and accelerate their performance through the development of an effective company induction.

• Develop the early careers development pathway to up-skill trainees, ensuring content is fit for purpose and aligns to best practice.

• Ownership for overseeing and maintaining the delivery of the annual broker training programmes (Tanker & Dry Cargo training weeks) and the Clarksons Academy, working closely and consulting with our external L&D consultant.

• Manage the delivery of highly engaging live seminars, webinars and workshops using various formats and tools across all levels.

• Apply best in class design methods to create quality content and update regularly.

• Identify opportunities to implement blended learning solutions to maximise the impact and transferability of learning on the job.

• Design and maintain relevant training materials and training communications.
• Develop people manager capability across all levels and ensure that leaders are well positioned to drive and manage performance development, and talent management and retention processes for their teams.

• Collaborate with our global offices and teams to ensure plans are in line with overall company strategy and meet local needs and preferences, whilst addressing both employee and business needs.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders around the business, as well as with HR colleagues globally, proactively sharing learning and development initiatives and best practice in order to create a value-add function.

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with third party training providers and where required, select and partner with appropriate external training and coaching providers.

• Proactively seek feedback from stakeholders and continually adapt content, style and delivery methods to maximise effectiveness.

• Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the implemented training initiatives and measure outcomes.

• Liaise with relevant stakeholders to assist in the management of mandatory training to ensure regulatory compliance.

• Incorporate the company’s values in all training delivered and model consistent behaviour with regards to role execution, positive attitude and being supportive of company initiatives and goals.

• Seek continuous improvement and process efficiencies in order to make best use of time and resources within the organisation.

• Additional ad hoc duties as required, in order to meet the needs of the business.

Key Skills & Experience

• Solid understanding and experience of the full learning cycle with a good working knowledge of talent management and people development principles and approaches.

• Previous experience of working within a learning and development role, preferably within a global matrixed organisation.

• Proven experience of creating, designing and delivering a variety of L&D initiatives and training solutions from conception through execution. This includes experience of hands-on delivery of end-to-end programmes.

• Confident L&D SME who has the desire to extend knowledge across the broader talent agenda.

• Knowledge and experience of a range of models, concepts and diagnostic tools for the identification, design, delivery and evaluation of learning solutions.

• Experienced in career progression pathways, succession planning and strategic L&D initiatives, in conjunction with BAU activity.

• Experience of facilitating engaging learning experiences onsite & virtually across the globe.

• Coaching experience.

• Able to build strong relationships, developing trust and credibility with peers, teams, internal and external stakeholders, with the ability to collaborate and influence at all levels across the organisation.

• Able to make strategic connections across the talent piece and provide commercial learning recommendations.
• In-depth knowledge of the latest L&D trends and thought leadership concepts.

• Articulate with excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).

• Strong presentation skills, able to confidently present and deliver to large and senior audiences.

• Results driven, with strong problem analysis and resolution skills and creative thinking.

• Initiative and commercially aware with sound judgement.

• Self-aware and open-minded with a high degree of personal and professional integrity.

• Self-sufficient with strong time management skills, able to manage multiple deliverables to a consistently high quality.

• Be prepared to travel to various locations as required.

• Excellent Microsoft Office skills including PowerPoint & Excel.

• Shipping experience would be desirable but not mandatory.
