ROLE SUMMARY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Customs Clearance Operator to join us and be part of our Customs Clearance team in our Belfast office. You will receive training to lead you to be responsible for preparing, checking, and processing all relevant customs clearance and entries data, documentation and declarations to ensure all shipments meet applicable laws and procedures to facilitate the timely and cost-effective import of goods.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

• Prepare, check and process all relevant customs clearance data, documentation and declarations to ensure all shipments meet applicable laws and procedures to facilitate the timely and cost-effective import and export of goods.

• Collect the correct documentation prior to release/delivery of cargo.

• Chase and complete customs entries clearance documents from customers, prior to cargo arrival or departure.

• Prepare and update quotes to customers, ensuring quotes are saved correctly on the system.

• Advise customers of any imposed local holds effecting planned delivery.

• Any issues causing cargo to be delayed through customs clearance on document problems must be brought to the attention of the Customs Clearance Manager.

• Provide a high level of customer service, and deal with all queries quickly and efficiently as well as provide advice and guidance on procedures.

• Import and Export clearances.

• Classify goods according to the tariff coding system and determine custom tariff numbers.

• Enter data onto relevant systems.

• Liaise with internal departments on arranging haulage with shipping lines/hauliers.

• Arrange delivery onward to the client.

• Ensure shipments are rated and invoiced correctly.

• Additional / ad hoc duties as required in order to meet the needs of the business.


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• Experience or exposure to customs clearance desirable
• Understanding of customs clearance desirable
• Customer service oriented
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Conscientious, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
• High level of integrity and commitment
• Self-starter who is highly organised
• Able to use own initiative and prioritise
• Team player with a willing and flexible approach to work
• Able to learn quickly and multi-task
• Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
• Positive and enthusiastic, with a can-do attitude
• Good MS Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel)
